Madeleine, 13, Cockermouth, UK

Written through the experiences of twelve year-old Arthur by Australian author Garth Nix, Mister Monday is the first novel in the fantasy Keys to the Kingdom series.

When he survives an asthma attack that was destined to kill him, Arthur is chosen as the ruler and obeyer to the Will of the universe - a parallel world through the door of the mysterious house that only Arthur and his friend, Leaf, can see.

After entering, he is grasped by the harrowing lure of its awesome realms, owned by solely of one of the trustees that rule 'the house' and the universe.  Assisted by a selection of provocative allies, he embarks on an adventure he must relive several times - to capture the key and rulership of the first trustee: Mister Monday.

As intricately depicted as it is entertaining, this master of fantasy literature will enrapture readers of all ages.
